#1043 #1042 #812 . Thank You to Thomas for this "polishing" patch. Thank you to everybody who has worked on this issue. Adding all the comments on the three issues together comes to about 60 items by at least 6 contributors. And it involves platform issues, networking, Linux and Windows APIs. One of the most complex issues to arise in Exiv2. Well done everybody. And we've dealt with this quickly. Only 9 days since Calvin first reported #1042 .

I use the term "complex" to mean many threads of technology. "complex" != "complicated". "complicated" = "difficult to understand". We try to avoid "complicated".

#476 , #614 : Introduced class LogMsg for enhanced logging, migrated all existing warnings and error messages (not the exceptions) to use the new logic. Every log message now has a type (debug, info, warning, error). Applications can set a logging level to determine which messages are processed and supply a custom log message handler at runtime. (Based on a contribution by Simson Garfinkel.)

2) Added a macro to replace timegm() with _mkgmtime() on VC8+ (supports 32 and 64 bit time_t)

Close files before calling FileIo::size() (which uses stat). This is necessary on Win32 it seems. Fixes bug #428 . Changed default mode of FileIo::open to "rb" and added FileIo::switchMode. Fixes bug #429 . Added a hack to make test output of exiv2-test.sh more readable on MinGW.

Overhauled exception handling. The new class Error has a list of error messages, which is selected based on the error code provided in the constructor.
...
Image::read/writeMetadata and ImageFactory::open now throw Error in case of failure. Applications therefore now need an exception handler for the error handling of such function calls. This should result in shorter and simpler application code.
